Not a car-related post, but hoping the Oppo Hive Mind can give me some pointers or ideas here!
I was just was just given a new-to-me Samsung Galaxy Core LTE smartphone by a friend who had it laying around their parent’s place. It’s completely stock
on factory firmware. He said I can have it if I can get it working. No sound comes out of it at all whether headphones
are plugged in or not....no ringing, no Youtube audio, etc, etc.
Also, the front camera won’t work either. The rear (selfie) camera does, but the front camera gives a “MediaServer failed. Camera needs restart.” error.
I’ve used friend’s Androids many times in the past and have done tutoring and software fixes on them for folks as part of my one job, but this is the first time I have owned an Android (...or any Smartphone).
I’ve tried
removing the battery several times, I’ve tried a Factory Reset several
times, and I’ve done several Cache Wipe and Factory Resets from the boot-up Recovery Menu as
well....all to no avail. Any ideas what is going on and how I could solve this to get it
working? Everything else seems to work on fine on it otherwise...but
it’s a paperweight without functioning sound! I’m thinking the Audio chip could be dead or a solder joint on it has failed somehow...
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the hardware has failed. Not much you can really do about it.

Chances are it fell in water and some stuff broke. I doubt parts for either would exceed the value of the phone.

It was probably dropped and may have loosened one of the connectors. This phone has the speaker on the back if I remember correctly and the head phone jack at the top. Which would put it in proximity of the camera that does not work. If you take the back off and don’t see anything loose it’s probably effed and not really worth fixing.

I dropped my S6 off the end of a airport jetway onto the concrete. Case didn’t help. screen shattered, that’s all. Many parts exist through Amazon and Ebay, but when talking directly with Samsung, they inform that they do not sell their parts to 3rd partys , so any parts listed as Samsung OEM is absolutely not true. I send my phone to the Samsung repair facility in Dallas, got it back in a few weeks with a new screen and it worked just fine, all for less than the fake screen parts plus shipping from a 3rd party location or online store.
Call up Samsung, ask them about it, see what their cost estimate is.

I don’t know if these Samsung codes still work, but they might be worth a shot:
*#*#0673#*#* OR *#*#0289#*#* (audio test)
*2767*3855# (complete wiping of your mobile also it reinstalls the phones firmware)
